Exercise Library: Calf Stretch from Table Pose

After a long walk, or before a yoga practice, a gentle stretch to the calf muscle, the gastrocnemius, feels good and is good for you. I do both sides 2X for a full stretch, and of course, breathe throughout the stretch.

Not only are you lengthening the gastrocnemius muscle, but you are lengthening your Achilles tendon as well, which has fibers that wrap around your heel and attach to the plantar fascia. Prevent Achilles and Plantar Fasciitis by keeping this area hydrated, lengthened, strong and mobile.
